The Gavorrano Monzogranite (Northern Apennines): An Updated Review of Host Rock Protoliths, Thermal Metamorphism and Tectonic Setting

We review and refine the geological setting of an area located nearby Tyrrhenian seacoast, in inner zone Northern Apennines (southern Tuscany), where a Neogene monzogranite body (estimated about 3 km long, 1.5 wide, 0.7 thick) emplaced during early Pliocene. This magmatic intrusion, known as Gavorrano pluton, is partially exposed ridge bounded by regional faults delimiting broad structural depressions. A widespread circulation geothermal fluids accompanied cooling gave rise to extensive Fe-ore deposit (mainly pyrite) exploited past century. The tectonic which favoured emplacement exhumation pluton strongly debated with fallouts on comprehension evolution this sector Apennines. Data from new fieldwork dataset, integrated information mining activity, have been whole crustal was exhumed. Our review, implemented palynological, petrological data pointed out that: (i) age Palaeozoic phyllite (hosting rocks) middle-late Permian, thus resulting younger than previously described (i.e., pre-Carboniferous); (ii) conditions at metamorphic aureole developed are estimated temperature c. 660 °C depth lower 6 km; (iii) determined constrained transfer zone, frame extensional tectonics affecting continuously since Miocene.
